Mijas Del Mar. Daughters of the sea.
It all started with the surf club. Birthed one sunny afternoon by two friends at our favorite beach near Santa Barbara, California looking to pass down the sacred beauty of the sea to our daughters. We get out there, surf together and cheer for the girls like it’s our full time job. Through surfing and friendship we teach these girls and each other to be comfortable in our own skin, to be brave and kind and a little bit wild. We entrust to them the golden lifestyle—surfing ’til sunset, warm sun on skin, party waves and salty hair. It’s all part of the gift. And part of the fun of being in a surf club is the club shirt! But we couldn’t stop there. So we designed a collection of pre and post surf style inspired by vintage California and curated our favorite gorgeous, sustainable, California-made products to throw in your beach bag. Hence, Mijas the brand. Because fun is more fun when you look good doing it, right?
So this is what we want to give you—permission to play hard, to surround yourself with beauty. Permission to dive deeper, to try something new. And to welcome you into the sisterhood.
What we do ::
From design concepts (usually conceived on the beach with a bottle of cheap champagne) to patterns to manufacturing, all of our apparel is brought to life in sunny California. Brittney and Kate love creating stylish and useful pieces that decrease drama and increase happiness for every girl’s day at the beach.
Why the name?
mija [mee-hah]
*Literally meaning "my daughter," mija is used as a familiar and affectionate address to women, like "dear" or "honey," in Spanish.
When any woman plays at the beach, she feels like a kid again. And being born and raised in Southern California, the spice, joy, and beauty of Mexican culture has flavored our life experiences. This distinctive term of endearment is fun and celebratory, and represents the kind of culture we love raising our girls in.
